During Lent we will be listening to Jesus from the cross, asking what these “cross-words” meant and what they tell us about Jesus’ suffering. We begin to talk about an atrocity worse than the senseless slaughter of innocent children, worse than the Holocaust that tortured and victimized 6 million Jews. We begin to focus on the unjust capital punishment of the only innocent man in human history and to hear his last words from that 1st century electric chair, the Roman cross. As we hear the first word from the cross, many feelings wash through our hearts, souls, and minds.
Scripture: Luke 23:32-34
