When you look back at sports history, franchises go through seasons of success and seasons of rebuilding (unless you're the Detroit Lions). John the Baptizer was the end of a season, the end of an era. He was the final prophet to point forward to the Messiah. He brought it home, so to speak.
Last week, we talked about John's message of repentance and how repentance paves the way to God. This week, John is the first prophet to announce a new way, a new direction. He was the final "Do-it-yourself" prophet before God's message became "Done-it-for-you." If that's confusing, just listen to the sermon. If it's not confusing, you should probably still listen to the sermon.
