Jesus says, “first sit down and calculate…” and a few moments later repeats “first sit down and decide…” In today’s gospel reading Jesus turns around and addresses the great crowd traveling with him. He’s proclaiming the kingdom of God, but they’re not getting it. He thus describes three conditions for being his disciple. This is a moment of choice for each person in the crowd, and for you and me.
