How was Paul filled with joy when he was imprisoned? He preached that whether he lives or dies, Christ will be exalted and that is why he rejoices. Either in deficit or surplus, God wins. Even when you feel stuck in a proverbial prison, God is still working. The question is, are we so fixated on where we want to be that we can't see what's right in front of us and how God can use that? Rather than pitying himself and longing to do God's work outside the prison walls, Paul uses his chains to glorify God and bring people to salvation.
