To be a child of the Father in heaven, Jesus teaches us in his sermon on the mount that we must not only love our brother, neighbor, but also our enemies. Jesus not only taught us this, he lived it here on earth, and came to earth to lay down his life for all of us who were enemies to God. For our sins were like a wall of separation between us and God.
