For years, women disappeared from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside—many of them vulnerable, marginalized, and too often overlooked by the institutions meant to protect them. The investigation would eventually lead police to the Port Coquitlam pig farm owned by Robert William Pickton, where authorities uncovered evidence connected to one of the most disturbing serial murder cases in Canadian history.
Pickton was convicted of murdering six women, though investigators believed the true number of victims may have been far higher. As detectives searched the sprawling farm, the case exposed not only the calculated brutality of a predator, but also the devastating consequences of delayed investigations, ignored warnings, and systemic failures surrounding missing Indigenous women and sex workers.
