During his “long and lonely” years in prison, Nelson Mandela’s passion 
for the liberation of his people expanded, becoming “a hunger for the freedom of all people, white and black.”  He came to see “that the oppressor must be liberated just as surely as the oppressed.”  A person who dehumanizes another is “a prisoner of hatred” and is “locked behind the bars of prejudice and narrow-mindedness.”
