Ok, let's chat about something that could really change the game for you when it comes to MORE moments of self-kindness. That thing is CELEBRATING rather than NEGATING.
As humans, we have a tendency to focus on all the things we didn't do, or all the ways we fall short of our own expectations. Maybe we did one movement class this week when we promised we'd do three. Or we only spent two minutes in meditation when we planned for 20. Or whatever the thing is for you.
The problem with this is that when we NEGATE what we have done and only look at where we fell short, we miss out on the opportunity to CELEBRATE what we did do. Tiny or not, whenever you choose in the direction of self-kindness, it's worth a celebration. Did 30 seconds of conscious breathing? Celebrate. Rolled your shoulders when you were feeling tense? Celebrate. Spent five minutes doing some yoga? Celebrate.
No you don't have to throw a party each time, but talk nice to yourself, acknowledge the positive act. You might be surprised by how powerful that is.
When we celebrate we have this moment of feeling success. We feel good about ourselves. And when that happens, we want more. So we do it again. And again. And again.
When we negate and simply dismiss these small wins because they weren't enough? We punish ourselves. And since when did that motivate us?
