Alix didn't have it easy when she was growing up in Burton-on-Trent in the English Midlands. Her parents split up when she was 8, her mum was diagnosed with MS a few years later and, as an only child, there was lots of responsibility on very young shoulders. And now she's got a key role in Derby's work to improve social mobility. Who better ?
