It can be easy today to take police investigative techniques and forensic technology for granted. But back in the 1800s, not even fingerprinting was utilised, never mind DNA analysis and the M-Vac system; which today is an invaluable tool to forensic investigators. As a result of this lack of technology, cases were often solved by witnesses and confessions, though many investigations never saw any resolution at all. In today’s video, we’ll be looking at a few examples of such inquiries, as we examine three gruesome 19th-century cases that were never solved.
