Hardening of the heart signifies a spiritual condition that can cause you to miss out on the blessings God has in store for those who are in Christ.
Two main section of scripture in the new testament address how hardness of heart happens:
Romans 9 - where the primary subject is the hardened hearts of Israel. We also get introduced to a prime example of hardness of heart in the person of the Egyptian Pharaoh.
Hebrews 3-4 where the primary subject is the church of God and their attitude towards the 7th day rest [aka the Sabbath].
Hardening of the heart involves stubbornness, pride, lack of mercy, an unforgiving attitude, and blindness to the obvious work of God.
