Where do I begin? It's been 6 years since I tended to this project so I wanted to first explain why that is.
Well, stuff happens.
Back then, I had just put in notice at my workplace at the time without a new offer in hand. I was out of gas. I'll explain that at a later time but I essentially had no direction and found time in the Summer of 2014 to kickstart the entire show. But then after 3 episodes I flatlined the project. I took a full-time 6-month contract in Carlsbad and de-prioritized allwebSD. In hindsight that was a mistake and I should have kept going.
Here I am yet again but under different terms. With social distancing the new norm, I find myself in less traffic and with more time to pick this back up. The goal is clear, however. And that's to simply keep running with this. The tank could be full or closer to empty but I'm gonna keep running this series.
So that's the gist of it for now but before I go, I want to leave you with a bit about the Web Developer side of me. Coding is hard. And if you're like me you play hard to get with the technology you're working with only to submit to it and go to Google and find your get out of jail free card.
Don't sweat it. Abuse it. For me, that was and still is very much JavaScript. For those of you learning it for the first time or if you've come from more Object Oriented Languages like C# or Java, you're immediately submerged into the obscurities right out the get go. Now for sake of time, I won't go into every detail. That will be a podcast in itself.
So when I'm caught in that rabbit hole or if it ever feels like quick sand, I'll always remember 5 things my JavaScript instructor taught me that I want to share with you as well.
So when you feel skirmish about this language, remember these 5 tips:
1.) Be realistic.
2.) Learn coding techniques.
3.) Don't mistake complex for correct or aim to find one true way to solve things.
4.) Make sure you aren't kidding yourself about your markup or CSS.
5.) Avoid libraries until you straight code JavaScript and DOM pretty well.
