"We all have the key ingredient to build resilience. It's remembering that it's the speed bumps in the road and the little set backs we have in life that are all part of building it" Welcome to Exeter Real; a brand new podcast recorded & filmed on set at the Organic Studios here in the heart of Exeter's business community and featuring our greatest entrepreneurs, business leaders, adventures and elite athletes, from right here in the city and from across the globe. Delving deep into their growth mindset we aim, through the art of great conversation, to find out just exactly what it takes to thrive in a world full of both challenge and opportunity. In episode #1 we’re chatting with Lee Holmes; a professional footballer playing for Exeter City FC, an entrepreneur and a passionate ambassador for anti-bullying. Lee’s career began with a signing to Derby back in 2002, where at just 15 he broke the record for becoming the youngest player to play for the club and by default, the FA Cup. Lee also played for England Under 16, 17 & Under 19’s making 18 appearances for his country during 2004 & 2006. Time and again we see mounting evidence of the power of the mind and so we have to ask the question.... What if there really is a world of untapped potential, just waiting to be released, in all of us? And, if there is, how do we reach it? In this raw honest account of his journey, we explore the power of the mind, untapped potential & the resilience needed for leadership in today’s constantly changing, uncertain, world. Huge thanks to both Exeter City Football Club for supplying footage & to one of sport’s favourite photographers, Phil Mingo of PPA, for his continued support. Thank you, as always, for listening. ............................ Lee’s young daughter Lila, 5, was recently rushed into Exeter Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital with pneumonia & after suffering a severe asthma attack. Within just a few short hours of arriving, Lila’s health deteriorated further and she was moved into intensive care, with an uncertain future. Her resilience and no doubt her parents's faith & strength of mind helped pull her through after her doctors delivered the heartbreaking news that there was no more they could do, bar keep her comfortable, and that her recovery would be down to her. We’re relieved and delighted to say that she’s now fully recovered and up & about, running around once more. Huge thanks to all the staff of Bramble Ward and to medical staff across the country, for their tireless work in looking after our poorliest, children and families when they need it most.
