In episode #10, we’re chatting with Steve James; a hugely respected figure within the Exeter business community. With a 40 year career in banking under his belt, Steve is now set to take up a new challenge in the form of an 18,000 mile, 6 month, unsupported bike ride around the world; a challenge that will see him pass through two diametrically opposed points in Madrid, Spain and Wellington, New Zealand. Leaving from the home of premiership champions Exeter Chiefs; Sandy Park, Exeter, on Sunday 14th May 2019, Steve’s global challenge will cross 24 countries and 4 continents. At almost 60 years old, Steve is an experienced ultra, and sometimes extreme, athlete who has completed the ultimate 3 Peaks challenge (The Eiger, The Matterhorn and Mont Blanc) and taken part in the Three Peaks Yacht Race, on four occasions. This will however, undoubtedly, be his biggest challenge to date, presenting both physical and mental challenges, whilst raising funds for Cancer UK and the Exeter Foundation. During the interview we delve deep into his drive for adventure, into risk taking, overcoming fears and into inspiring others to take up a challenge and try something new; something that both scares and excites you.
