Rabbi Binny Freedman is a highly engaging and inspirational educator who has a gift for synthesizing difficult, sophisticated material in a way that inspires both the novice and the scholar. His proficiency in applying classic Jewish concepts to contemporary life in a personal and meaningful way has made him a sought after speaker throughout North America and around the world. This address to current and former students finding themselves in isolation, predominantly in North America was broadcast by Rav Binny on the afternoon of April 7th after he had just completed Bedikas Chametz in his Efrat home.Fascinated by the continuing hallowed custom to search for leaven by candlelight on the eve before Pesach, despite the fact that most homes in our times have been scrubbed clean before the Bedikas Chametz time,Rav Binny suggests a symbolic reason for focusing a measured beam in a dark room.He connects the sense of sight ,and the gratitude we have towards God for granting it to us with the Bracha of "Pokeach Evarim".Citing the Peshat in the admonition against giving Shochad to a judge-where the verb form of "Ever" is used,he concludes that we at times need to have our objectivity realigned, and not allow our natural proclivities, even if they be innate compassion, blind us to the right thing to do.This illuminates the Midrashic statements as to the cause of Yitzchack's "blindness", or wrongful perception (Avraham's tears of mercy at the Akeidah)which are discussed by the Rabbis in the passages that immediately precede the text where Yitzchack voices his desire to give the Brachos to Esav,a man with overwhelming character flaws. Not surprisingly,Rav Binny relates this to the training he received under Shaul Mofaz,as to how to respond when you are stationed in a turret of a tank confronting an 8 year old Jihadist wielding an RPG.Binny gives the issue nuance when there can clearly be two equally plausible ways to asses a situation eg: the Two State solution,or whether new Corona vaccines should be rushed into development, and admits as Rav Soloveichick has pointed out, that sometimes clarity occurs only after the complete arc of events have played out.We thank the Orayta Yeshivah for the use of this material-Check out more Shiurim and information on their websitehttps://www.orayta.org/Please leave us a review or comment at ravkiv@gmail.comfor more information on this podcast visityeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcasts.org See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
