Description

A poem about the Russian Foreign Minister's threat of military action against Ukraine if they do not fulfill Moscow's demands regarding their "new territories," as reported by the Russian state news agency TASS. The poem reflects on the importance of individual sovereignty and the dangers of using force to assert control over another's land.

---

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke
Of Ukraine's "new territories" with a choke
He said they must fulfill Moscow's demands
Or face the threat of Russian military hands

The Russian state news agency TASS reported
The words of Lavrov, as he exported
A message of ultimatum and force
Leaving Ukraine with little recourse

But Ayn Rand would surely disagree
With this kind of brute authority
She believed in the power of the individual
And the right to one's own territorial

So let us celebrate the strength of the human spirit
And reject the use of force to inherit
Another's land, or bend to another's will
Let us all choose to live free and still

For in a world of reason and justice
The only true path is one of mutual trust
And respect for the sovereignty of each nation
And the right to choose one's own designation
