Etelä-korealainen matkustajalaiva MV Sewol upposi 16.4.2014 ollessaan matkalla Incheonista Jeju-saarelle. Aluksen äkillisestä kallistumisesta johtunut uppoaminen vei mukanaan 304 henkilöä, joista suurin osa oli Danwon High Schoolin opiskelijoita.
