The History of Nerds
What exactly are Nerds? Nerds are a neon-colored itty bitty tiny candy. They are made out of sugar, corn syrup, artificial flavors, and a lot of dyes. Sounds delicious.
Nerds got their start in 1983 in the Willy Wonka Candy Factory. Invented by Angelo Fraggos, these little treats originally came in the double compartment box, Strawberry on one side, Grape on the other or you could get Cherry on one side, and orange on the other.
In 1985, the National Candy Wholesalers Association named NERDS “Candy of the Year”.
Today there are many flavors and many different NERDS products.
