I'm back again, with another solo episode! This week, I'm talking about the importance of rest. As you might imagine, it's inspired by the last two weeks, in which I've been recovering from my 100 km ultramarathon. Most coaches recommend active recovery, and I'm certainly not going to talk you out of the value of that, but I just haven't been up to it—so I've been taking a break from running.
My muscles felt great just a couple of days after the race, and so I went on a run a few days after. But I felt really tired the next day, and so I rested again. And again. And again. I'm getting back into running this week, but for the last fortnight it's been an adventure in rest.
I originally wanted to get a nap expert or a rest expert on the show to talk about rest, but I'm not a napper, and the rest people I found were experts in yoga nidra and things that I also don't do. So today's episode is all about the value of non-doing, and resting by just not doing the thing that made you tired. Not really rocket science, but it's something that I find hard to do.
