Astral Projection can take us down many paths, one of these paths is healing, some of us have to address issues before we can even attempt to leave our bodies. We may have blocks that prevent us from OBE'ing.
Furthermore, once we get out in the Astral we may also develop the desire to help our fellow human beings through learning healing processes so we can be of service to the world.
