It doesnt take Brian long to find that advancement is going to be difficult, and he is stuck in a no-win job with few prospects. Brian, not the type to be held down by lack of opportunity, supplements his income as a cat burglar.
Not only does this pad his pocketbook, it gives his ego and self-confidence a tremendous boost, so much so that he is noted by the local political power broker. The broker has had his eye on Bryan for some time, seeing the potential for new blood in the state Senate. Brian realizes that he will, of course, be taking direction once he is elected. It's an easy transition from cat burglar to politician.
