One of the most interesting aspects surrounding the constant fighting around Jerusalem is that this particular area isn't even a good piece of land. The Bible calls this area Zion, and it simply means parched place, because it's just a big rock, there's nothing really desirable about the actual land. Jerusalem will be a stumbling block for the nations. It's not a physical battle over the land, it's a spiritual one.
