When Jesus prayed right before his death, he prayed for you. He prayed for all future believers. He prayed for unity among us all. Yet, as Pastor Terry emphasizes today, he did not pray that we’d be exactly alike. He desired the gospel to go to all nations and cultures. The diversity of gifts, creativity, opinions, and values all add strength to the church. Jesus prayed instead for a unity in the midst of our diversity. God didn’t hope we’d all be a clone army marching in sync parroting godly platitudes. He celebrates how different we all are.
