It has been said that God doesn't call the qualified, but He qualifies the called. David was called to be King, but his circumstances didn't reflect that calling in the beginning. David was hiding in caves, running for his life, yet God called him to be the King of Israel. The Lord used all these circumstances and hardships in Davids life to mold him into what He called him to be. God made David qualified for the calling on his life.
