"Do you know what we hate?"
High Strung (1991/92).
This week, we suffered through Steve Oedekerk's one-man spiral into madness as Thane Furrows, a children's book author who hates everything neighbors, dogs, toast, gravity and lets us know it in a relentless, sweaty stream of monologues.
The plot (kind of)? He gets cryptic messages that something big is coming at 8 o'clock. In the meantime, he paces, yells, and metaphorically shakes his fist at the sky while the audience slowly loses the will to live.
Fred Willard pops in. So does Denise Crosby. And eventually, Jim Carrey shows up as Death in an uncredited cameo that is somehow both the best and most confusing part of the movie.
Is it a comedy? Is it a hostage video with jokes? We're not sure. All we know is, we hated it.
Join us as we question our life choices, dissect this early '90s oddity, and beg the universe to never make us watch it again.
