Have you ever been the type of person to say something like, 'I don't care what other people think of me?'
Science tells us that we are hardwired to want acceptance. When you think back to the primal days of hunting and gathering, we needed to show our contributions in order to be accepted in our tribe and this is ultimately how we survived.
In her book The How of Happiness by Sonja Lyubomirsky, a study was done by her team on a group of grade-school students. She had one half of the group perform random acts of kindness each week for six weeks. They took the other half and did nothing with them; they were the control group.
By the end of the study, the kids who did something nice for other people were not only happier than the control group…They were also more 'popular' than they were in the beginning.
Tune in as Coach Ashlie Walton and Detective Walton discuss the importance of identifying ways that you can be accepted by your current tribe and why it's so important to your overall happiness.
