Our emotions are a key piece of us that cannot be controlled. It’s a common reaction to try to “fix” negative or undesirable feelings, but it’s not really possible and those feelings can end up turning into harmful behaviors if left unchecked. This is where Emotional Agility comes in. As coaches, it’s important to learn how to work WITH our clients’ feelings to enact positive change, rather than focusing on the myth of “control.”
In this episode, Danny describes the difference between emotional intelligence vs. emotional agility. He shares his F.E.E.L. Model to help you work with your clients as they navigate the emotions they experience in their lives. If you can help them live by their values, rather than their emotional impulses, you create an environment that will bring out their best intuitions and choices.
“Emotional Agility is using curiosity, acceptance, and our values to use our emotions towards positive change. It’s being flexible with our thoughts and feelings so we can respond optimally to things that pop up in every day life.” -Danny Coleman
