Unlike what is generally believed, motivation is not a gift, it’s a skill. And like any other skill, it takes practice, dedication, and patience to get to a certain level where you’re really good at it. The difference between motivation and any other given skill is that we need motivation everyday: to go about our day, to get to the gym, to make a healthy meal… but what if we’re really bad at being motivated?
In this episode of Take Care Radio, Danny talks about how to motivate people in general, but from a coach perspective. It’s really important to understand that motivation comes after action, and not the other way around and that’s a really helpful concept and mindset shift to teach a fitness client. Danny also explains that taking action itself is also a skill, which requires repetition. Tune in!
“We ultimately need to understand as coaches that people change when it makes a difference for them to do so.” – Danny Coleman
