I went to lunch last week with a good friend who owns a successful business in my city. We were discussing how the mask wearing of 2020 has affected her business and how strictly they are enforcing them in her location. She shared how, for the most part, they are relaxed about the masks because they are concerned for their customers social and mental health in addition to physical health and said that she feels that they practice other measures for social distancing so that they can be more relaxed for the customers who are in need to not wear them.
She then went on to say that for the most part people have been kind and understanding and explained that it hasn't been a problem except for ONE lady. After she told me what happened with her, she said, "ugh, she was such a Karen". We both laughed but the truth is, even though I have heard this saying many times recently, I had no idea what it really means. When I got home, I went on a hunt to figure out what it means when someone says this. What I found made me sad for the people in this world named Karen. Today's episode highlights how a name, in itself, can be a 'tag'.
