Description

This is a rewind of an interview with John Records Landecker we initially did in April, 2013.

John will end his current stint at WLS-FM July 31 after his evening show. He refuses to say he's retiring. He'll fly to Los Angeles to spend time with his granddaughter and daughter, Amy Landecker of "Transparent." Then he may do a podcast, or, who knows.

This is as good a time as any to remind our our early influences were not political or talkers. They were guys like John Records Landecker who had gigs we were never good enough for and in markets too big for us.

The post from the original air date of our interview is below...

If you grew up in the midwest in the 1970s and never heard of John, what rock were you hiding under?
John Records Landecker was a fixture of nighttime rock and roll radio at WLS in Chicago and at stops in many markets thereafter. Yeah, one of my radio idols. Get over it. Yeah, he wrote a book, Records Truly is My Middle Name. Get over it. John still works in rock and roll radio, my first love. Get over it. He does nights at WLS-FM, the sister station of the ersatz AM legend and now talk giant. John was never dragged kicking and screaming into talk radio, and damn him for being so lucky!
