The 5 is a podcast about music where my guest selects five pieces that are in whatever way influencing their musical practice. We listen to each one and discuss how and why they stand out.

My guest for Episode 1 is Chris Cohen.

Songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Chris Cohen has been writing and recording music for quite some time.  As a former member of the band Deerhoof and as producer / performer for artists such as Weyes Blood, Cass McCombs and Ariel Pink, Chris' career has landed him on many stages and records worldwide.  As a solo artist, his two full length albums on Captured Tracks both have received serious accolades.  On this inaugural episode of The 5, Chris speaks to me about how lush 60s string arrangements, clanky 80s drum machines and The Rolling Stones all make their way into his process in writing and recording his forthcoming third album.

Tracklist:

1. Don't Box Me In - Stewart Copeland & Stan Ridgeway
2. Are You There (With Another Girl) - Dionne Warwick
3. Europa and The Pirate Twins - Thomas Dolby
4. Jumpin' Jack Flash - The Rolling Stones
5. I Hear a Symphony - The Supremes
