This episode features music from two groups, A Tribe Called Quest and Soul Coughing.
Back in the mid 90's I made a cassette tape with Soul Coughing on one side and Tribe on the other. This was before I had a portable CD Discman, and the only thing in common these two groups had was that they were alphabetically next to each other in my CD rack. After some time flipping this tape over and over again I realized that their music, although very different was somewhat alike and sounded great together.
Time had passed and that tape had become so worn out that it snapped apart while playing. Oh well, I thought it was fun while it lasted and I didn't think about that combination again until I saw Soul Coughing play at Roseland Ballroom around 1997. During their set and in the middle of the song "Moon Sammy" they broke into "Show Business" by A Tribe Called Quest! At that moment it all made sense. These two groups DO sound great together.
So, I thought I'd share that Ahah! moment with you and hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
