Having no Japanese roots did not stop my roommate, Mikaela, from taking an interest in learning the language. To have an interest though is the easy part; going through the process of the education is where things actually become difficult but where real growth is found. Since she went through the latter and continues her study to this day, I knew that I wanted her perspective for the show.
