Every year in the summertime, we are greeted by the loud songs of the cicada broods. There's normally about seven different broods at any given time who hatch underground after having lived five years or so underground. For many of the broods, they come up to the surface, they mate, they die.
This year, however, we're also being visited by 'Brood 13' and 'Brood 17', and the sound is deafening.
