Dara Ackerman is a multifaceted and dynamic songwriter/artist, performer and peace educator here in the SF East Bay. We met while sharing the stage at The Monkey House in Berkeley. While I was traveling not long after, she sent me her first album, Skyland, to learn for a show on my return. The album became the perfect soundtrack to my journey into the mountains and beyond. We discuss the unusual way Skyland was made, and her eclectic life's unlikely intersection with the West Oakland rebel indie rock band, Felsen. My interview with Dara takes twists and turns, and is accompanied by cuts from her songs, "Same Planet, Different Universe," and the title track, "Skyland," from her beautiful album.
