This week we were at NCSL in Los Angeles, and caught up with Kevin Callahan - Director, State Government Affairs - Northeast for CompTIA. CompTIA is the world's leading tech association. They also develop certification programs for the industry.
Show Notes:
- CompTIA represents large social media and internet companies, as well as small IT companies
- CompTIA also certifies IT professionals for a number of different skill-sets. To date, they've certified 3 million+ individuals
- Data privacy and security are two of the biggest issues they've seen pop up in the states recently
- Because the internet is "borderless," California's recent data privacy legislation will become the de facto data "law of the land" that companies operating in the U.S. will abide by
- Kevin covers 13 states for CompTIA
- Kevin got his start working for a state senator, then transitioned to a contract lobbying firm before moving to in-house government affairs positions
