Welcome back for another episode of The Powerful Mind Podcast! This week I have a chat with Ian Davis a poet, life-long martial artist, and director for a new non-profit serving those suffering from digestive diseases. In this episode, like with a lot of other ones, our conversation kind of goes all over the place. I was pleased when we got to talking about the internal aspects of martial arts, though. I feel like a lot of the time when martial arts get addressed, it's often concerning self-defense or fitness, or doing cool tricks. Less often is discussed the internal aspect, the mindset behind the practice, and how very often the more developed you are as a martial artist, the more peaceful your life will be.
I've known Ian for many years, and I'm glad to call him a friend and also glad to finally have him on the show. We've been trying to nail down a time to chat for a while now with our schedules. We also go a bit into his non-profit benefiting those suffering from digestive system diseases, particularly those affected with Crohn's as he was growing up and still is. There's a portion of the interview where we had to move though, and the location we moved to was a bit louder, so I apologize in advance because it is a little bit harder to hear our conversation with that background noise.
What are some things that you are doing every day to educate your mind, or strengthen your spirit? We all have things to deal with in the day to day, whether it's stress from work, from school, from home, outside of the home, whatever it is- there's no shortage of influences trying to decide how we live our life. Realize that you are the only one who has control over you. The thoughts you have, the actions you take- these are the things that you have control over, your power is yours alone. No one can take it from you; it is something that you choose, or don't choose. A lot of times life can make us so frustrated that we just don't want to try anymore, and it can get hard. Take some time every day, to read something uplifting, or to listen to motivational content. Start your day strong, and you will build those mental muscles to carry through when the tough times come.
On another note, do you any of you guys play video games? I had when I was younger but have had many years not playing them. But I've been trying to get back into gaming a bit. Primarily as a de-stressor and way to turn my mind to another subject between binge-productivity sessions. What are some ways that you find to destress? Tag me on Instagram @alexyounglive with your tips for staying motivated and de-stressing. Or just say Hi, either or, I love the shout outs. If you want to connect with Ian, you can reach him on Facebook; he's Ian Davis on there. Or on Instagram, he's @avant.counter – you'll be able to find snippets of his poetry on there.
