A Powerful Mindset: One that is not rigid. It is able to pause, and respond to the situation at hand. I really loved this tip that she gave, where we only need to ask ourselves, "What if this wasn't a problem?"
This week, we sit in on my conversation with Lori Puma, a serial overachiever who's been on a lifelong quest to figure out why some people change and others don't. Two graduate degrees, a couple jobs, a serious illness, and one heartbreaking blog about grieving later, she's found the answer. Change starts with the stories we tell ourselves and sticks when we develop new habits.
Now, she helps memoirists with inspirational stories and nonfiction authors with practical, habit-forming advice build an audience of people who need them. You can get a behind-the-scenes look at her audience-building methods by following the Overachieving Author series on her blog on her blog at loripuma.com/overachievers/ or get personal stories from the memoir she's writing about growing up as a truth-obsessed kid in a family where love means never asking too many questions at loripuma.com/memoir-signup
Often times we are just in reaction-mode. Something happens, and we react. Someone offends us, we get angry. We yell, we feel hurt. Something negative that happens, especially if said at the beginning of the day could end up ruining an entire day for us. We could end up experiencing things through that context. But what if it wasn't a problem? What if we could change that context into what that enabled, rather than disabled our options and our actions? Try this on during the week, I'd love your feedback on how it affects your experience during the day.
For any nonfiction authors out there, if you're serious about reaching more of the people who need your book, Lori is doing a special deal until July 1 on her services.
