The word "prestige" originally meant a trick, from the Latin "praestigium," meaning "illusion." The Prestige, Christopher Nolan’s follow up to his breakout film Memento.  The movie stars Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as rival magicians who would stop at nothing to best each other. This is not to be confused with The Illusionist, which is the other movie about a magicians in turn of the century England that came out the same year. Bale and Jackman are supported by some really strong performances by Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine (second week in a row), the rare appearance by Andy Serkis as an actual human, and a fun turn by David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. Bowie initially turned down the role. It wasn’t until Nolan flew out to England to explain that Bowie’s larger than life persona was the only way to make the idea of Tesla successfully building a teleportation machine believable. I have to say, I think he was right.
