Description

This episode was recorded over a year ago. It got lost it in Gabi's files. She is SO excited to introduce you all to Nichole Rogers. When she isn't serving the nursing community at a local hospital Nichole is pouring back into her community. She started a non profit called the Welstand Foundation. A 501c3 organization established in June of 2019 by a group of community members and other organizational leaders who want to improve health equity in NM for people of color.  Welstand is Afrikaans for "Well-being" and has the vision of serving as a hub for all things involving the well-being of our communities. Welstand Foundation currently has a governing board of four community members and our founder serves as our Chief Impact Officer. In this episode we talk single Mom life, stigmas around mental health within the communities we grew up in. Nichole shares how she discovered she was a victim of domestic violence. And it wasn't what she thought it was. Quotables:

" 80% of nurses become nurses because of the care they gave to loved ones. It comes from a trauma they experienced."

"If you don't deal with your traumas it will trigger you every single day."

" who better to teach someone and say hey I went thru what you went thru, you can relate. "

"You can't be my friend unless you have been thru some trauma in your life, we got some deep scars over here."
