Welcome to the TeachHER Podcast Powered by The Innocent Brown Girl Project. Our mission is to convey strategies for Grit & Grace with educators and advocates of African American and Latina Girls. Thank you for joining us today.
Today, our guest is Kirby Felder. Kirby didn’t begin a career in education the conventional way. She studied Technical Theatre at Hampton University and worked as a theatre technician. During this time, she worked with a children's theatre that gave her new insight into how theatre impacts children. A few years later, Kirby was motivated to begin her teaching career and finally followed her grandmother’s wise words to become an educator. She is now an elementary theatre teacher in Atlanta, GA, where she has taught for five years. Prior to teaching theatre, Kirby was a kindergarten and first-grade teacher, where she regularly integrated her love of the arts into the classroom. When she’s not at school, you can catch her on YouTube on Xploration Theatre, where she performs theatrical read-alouds, puppet shows, and fun lessons for early learners.
