Today Dr. Carrie Elk explains that we do not have to live managing symptoms of PTSD. She shares that PTSD results from a natural physical response (sympathetic response) to a traumatic event that causes memory to be stored in a different fragmented way that allows it to reactivate over and over. The memory can be reprocessed in a calm state (parasympathetic) which will eliminate the traumatic response/trigger when recalling the event.
