The Asian Insurgents are coming as the Divergent sequel, based off on the Veronica Roth books, hits theatres this week!
The Tomboy Tarts, Raven and Persis once again, find themselves on the run. This time they are factionless, fleeing out of dystopian Chicago on a train.
They bump into the Disoriented Comedy faction members, Jenny Yang and Atsuko Okatsuka, who are also on the run and looking to escape a city at war. Jenny and Atsuko share their story on how Disoriented Comedy came about and how they forged a pretty cool comedic partnership and their upcoming nation-wide tour with the rest of the Disoriented troopers.
Then we talk about the Asian American comedy revolution in the USA – why Fresh off the Boat, an autobiographical new comedy series based loosely off of chef Eddie Huang’s life, has changed the game and reaction sentiments to the show.
Then it’s time to take Jenny Yang’s best-loved Buzzfeed video series on YouTube ‘Ask an Asian’ and place our guests on the spot (with spicy sauce of course). Watch the video below!

Nobody wins except the newly formed Asian Insurgents as Jenny, Atsuko, Raven and Persis take a final stab at escaping.
Will they succeed? You’ll just have to listen to find out!
Disoriented Comedy is the first-ever nationally-touring stand-up comedy showcase that features the fresh and diverse voices of Asian American female-identified comics and the diverse friends who love us. In cities throughout the country, Diso¬riented Comedy creates a unique lineup of nationally-touring talent with local, up-and-coming Asian American female comics.
While the tour's focus is on showcasing Asian American female comics, Disoriented Comedy's productions feature unique comics of diverse race, sexuality and gender not often seen on mainstream comedy club stages. Seeking a suppo¬rtive network of comed¬ians, and a desire to build audiences and community, Los Angeles-raised Atsuko Okatsuka and Jenny Yang and Seattle-based founding co-producer Yola Lu created “Dis¬oriented Comedy.”
This first-of-its-kind comedy show debuted in Summer 2012 to a sold-out audience of nearly three hundred comedy lovers in the historic David Henry Hwang Theater in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. The sold-out tour has taken the fresh voices of Asian American female comics to colleges and universities such as Wellesley College, Pomona College and Loyola Marymount University, and standing-room only shows in Seattle, Washington, San Francisco, California, and the Westside Comedy Theater in Santa Monica, California.
The troupe are now holding a show March 26, called the Family Reunion so if you're in LA, go check the show out. Tickets are priced at USD$10 plus service fee. We were told you'd need to hold your pee in a bottle. :)
