Description

This is a con­ver­sa­tion with the Artist Jamie Black (Métis) about her work and her artis­tic phi­los­o­phy. She dis­cuss­es her lat­est work called the Red Dress project. 

Accord­ing to Jamie The REDress Project is based on an aes­thet­ic response to the more than 500 miss­ing and mur­dered Abo­rig­i­nal women in Cana­da. She is draw­ing atten­tion to the gen­dered and racial­ized nature of vio­lent crimes against Abo­rig­i­nal women the instal­la­tion seeks to evoke a pres­ence through the mark­ing of absence. Cur­rent­ly the Unit­ed Nations has start­ed an inves­ti­ga­tion into the Canada‘s miss­ing women.
