For the First Show of 2017, we pick-up were we left off at the 4th Annual Indigenous Health Symposium hosted at Winnipeg’s Bannatyne Health Sciences Centre, our guest is Master’s student Monica Cyr from the Department of Human Nutritional Sciences and the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences at the University of Manitoba. We discuss Monica’s vital work in Southern Manitoba Métis communities, traditional food handling and preparation — a project she calls “Honouring our Grandmothers.” We tackle research ethics, Indigenous methodologies, the demands of thesis writing, and the Indigenous graduate student experience.
