For the First Show of 2017, we pick-up were we left off at the 4th Annu­al Indige­nous Health Sym­po­sium host­ed at Win­nipeg’s Ban­natyne Health Sci­ences Cen­tre, our guest is Mas­ter’s stu­dent Mon­i­ca Cyr from the Depart­ment of Human Nutri­tion­al Sci­ences and the Fac­ul­ty of Agri­cul­ture and Food Sci­ences at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Man­i­to­ba. We dis­cuss Mon­i­ca’s vital work in South­ern Man­i­to­ba Métis com­mu­ni­ties, tra­di­tion­al food han­dling and prepa­ra­tion — a project she calls ​Hon­our­ing our Grand­moth­ers.” We tack­le research ethics, Indige­nous method­olo­gies, the demands of the­sis writ­ing, and the Indige­nous grad­u­ate stu­dent experience.
