We dis­cuss the show­ing of Oci­ci­wan’s 8th col­lab­o­ra­tive project ​in memo­ri­am.…” on July 18 at the Fran­cis Win­spear Cen­tre for Music in Edmon­ton that show­cas­es the col­lab­o­ra­tive ener­gy of Indige­nous Art Col­lec­tive – Post­com­mod­i­ty and Amer­i­can com­pos­er Alex Water­man. ​in memo­ri­am.…” takes Robert Ash­ley’s orig­i­nal scores about famous Indige­nous male nation­al heroes and adds a 5th Memo­ri­am ded­i­cat­ed to 3 amaz­ing Indige­nous women from Alber­ta com­posed by Post­com­mod­i­ty and Water­man but per­formed by a num­ber of Indige­nous musi­cal guests from Alber­ta. Bec­ca is the project lead on ​in memo­ri­am.…” and we dis­cuss the gen­er­a­tive and sup­port­ive ener­gy of art col­lec­tives and Oci­ci­wan’s man­date to pro­mote, enhance, and show­case Indige­nous con­tem­po­rary art through­out Alber­ta. Though new to the medi­um of music, Bec­ca is an accom­plished cura­tor in the Indige­nous art com­mu­ni­ty hav­ing spent a year as the Abo­rig­i­nal Cura­tor In-res­i­dence at the Indige­nous-run and oper­at­ed Urban Shaman Art Gallery in Win­nipeg and is cur­rent­ly com­plet­ing the Indige­nous Research and Cur­ricu­lum Pro­gram at the Banff Cen­tre for the Arts.
