The UCW Paddle celebrates their 50th episode by forgetting to acknowledge it’s the 50th episode but make up for it by throwing around all the platypuses (platypi?), movie quotes, BDSM scandals, and Australian mining magnates you can handle! Adam begins by seamlessly transitioning an obscure reference into a Two Truths and a Lie segment that almost makes Katherine quit the podcast. Undeterred by another near-disastrous segment-duplication incident, Piers soldiers on with an unlikely story about a couple from Quebec that has the team questioning everything from identity-politics to why dog-owners are given so much leeway. Then, Katherine jumps in with facts about the richest person in Australia – Gina Rinehart – who is, excitingly, a woman, but also accused of workers’ rights abuses, opening up the floor for comparisons between Gina and Gimli from Lord of the Rings. You be the judge! Finally, Jimmy closes out this incomparable 50th episode with scintillating details on one of nature’s most unorthodox animals, the platypus. Did someone say “pussy?” Of course, we did.
