Vocalo has partnered with the Old Town School of Folk Music and Music Moves Chicago to bring listeners our "Future Folk" series, highlighting several creative, community-centered resources promoted by these organizations. Co-taught by Angel Bat Dawid and Jaden Isiah, the Great Black Music Class strives to uplift Black identities and invest in the next generation through access to education and creative expression. The eight-week course introduces children to real instruments and music technology in a hands-on, autonomous Black environment. We heard from Dawid, Isiah and contributing educator Phillip Armstrong about the course.
"Future Folk" is produced by Ari Mejia. To learn more about the Great Black Music Class and more of Music Moves' programming, visit www.oldtownschool.org/musicmoves. Special thanks to Ayana Contreras and Arif Smith.
