The Shoopy Scramble is an annual charity golf tournament held to raise funds and awareness for skin cancer detection, treatment, and education, particularly melanoma. It was started in 2013 by Brett "Shoopy" Shoopman, a two-time malignant melanoma survivor, and has raised significant money for causes including the Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center and melanoma research.
On this episode of The Wednesday Match Play Podcast, brought to you by Eden Mill St Andrews, Brett talked about the event and how it got started, explained more about melanoma and the warning signs to watch for, and discussed the importance of sunscreen and wearing sleeves for protection. He also shared his connection to Desert Willow and the team there, covered the cost to play in the event, the need for volunteer support, and a safari experience that is up for grabs, while outlining his plans for future growth and continued efforts to raise awareness about skin cancer. This was a heartwarming conversation, and it was an honor to have Brett on the show. Let's tee off.
