In this episode host Sondra Doty brings back to the podcast her husband, Nick Doty. Recently, Sondra and Nick were discussing the class of 2020 and the compassion they have for this year's graduates-not to mention their parents or guardians. They're all going through some major disappointments. The cancellations of live, in-person class ceremonies and many grad parties just sucks.

Sondra and Nick also take some time to reflect on their own high school senior years-that's 20 years ago for Sondra and 26 for Nick. Oh how time flies, right? They both process together some of their high school memories and experiences while digging out from the closet their "boxes of life" and other high school memorabilia. They discuss what they wanted to be back then while recalling yearbook moments and pop culture things in the mid-to-late 90s and the ever-anticipated year 2000.

Looking back now, what would you go back and tell your high school self? What lasting advice would you give to the class of 2020?

Sondra encourages the 2020 class to be flexible to changing their plans and direction; live as authentically as possible. And don't forget who helped you get there! Whatever or wherever the next stop is, know that your parents (guardians) will want to hear from you and that doesn't mean just text messages!

To everyone, if you know a student graduating this year reach out more than you ever have. Ask the grad's parents how you can make their graduation special despite the current circumstance. Perhaps write a longer note in your card, make a video, send them an inspirational book, or set up a small outdoor ceremony in the driveway!

Both students and parents have imagined graduation (the day and beyond) for many years. It's ok to be beyond disappointed. Sondra and Nick both believe this class is going to come out with so  many life lessons at such a young age. Doesn't make it any easier, but someday the grads will be able to look back-20 to 26 years from now-and have a heckuva story to tell.

Congratulations, Class of 2020! You are not forgotten. "Oh the places you'll go" (Dr. Seuss).
